The gold coating of a standard polycarbonate track-etched membranes provides a conductive surface, avoiding charging of the filter and sample when examining them in an electron microscopic. The filter provides a smooth flat surface for good visibility of particles. As packaged in the boxes, the side with the thicker (40nm) gold coating should be facing up. From visual inspection, it is fairly easy to differentiate the sides; the side with the thicker (40nm) gold coating is noticeably more reflective than the side with the thinner gold coating.
Gold coated polycarbonate membranes are coated on both sides (40nm on side; 20nm on the other), resulting in increased filter stability and high contrast in SEM. They meet requirements of regulatory bodies such as ISO 14966 or VDI 3492.
Other applications for gold coated Polycarbonate membrane filters include:
- Asbestos testing
- Analysis of powders and dusts
- SER-s based detection for pathogen concentration
- Protein binding
- Sample Preparation
