The concept of a microfiber cloth is nothing short of revolutionary, and in many respects, for scientific and technical "wiping", it is far superior to the more traditionallint-free cotton and lint-free polyester wipers used up until now.

The architecture is best described as having filaments made up of a unique fluted core of nylon with wedge-shaped (or pie-shaped, depending on your perspective) polyester fitting into the "flutes" of the core nylon. Both types of fibers will attract both water as well as oil and the relative sharp edges of the pie-shaped filaments literally "cut" through stains on a surface, with the stain and other particles being drawn into the crevices of the structure of the cloth. Conventional fabrics leave the particles adhering to their outside surfaces, allowing them to scratch and harm delicate surfaces but with the microfiber construction, the "dirt" particles are literally drawn inside the texture of the cloth, and keeping them from causing harm to the surface.

Wet or dry:
Another unique characteristic of the SPI-Fibe™ Ultra Microfiber Wipers is that they can be used either wet or dry, that is, they can be used with water, isopropyl alcohol, or certain other organic solvents, or they can be used dry. When used wet, the wipers can absorb liquid roughly 400% of the weight of the wiper. And when used dry, they produce an excellent environment for polishing metal surfaces. There have also been reports that the microfiber structure, with one wipe, can eliminate essentially all bacteria on a surface, without resorting to the use of chemicals but we have not ourselves confirmed this observation.

Note: When used wet, be careful not to use too much water. If the water is literally dripping off the wiper, then you have used too much water and streaking of the surface will result. The cloth should be only "damp" but not really dripping wet.

Uniqueness:
The SPI-Fibe™ Ultra Microfiber Wipers are unique in that they alone are offered for use in clean rooms. They have been processed, laundered and cleaned and then packaged in a class 1 cleanroom, which means control was down to particles less than 0.1 µm. When clean room use is not anticipated, money can be saved by purchasing instead the SPI-Fibe™ Microfiber Cleaning Cloth which is nearly the same except it is not recommended for clean room use.

Textured vs. Non-Textured:
The SPI-Fibe™ Ultra Microfiber Wipers are available in both convention fabric design as well as a more plush textured design.

Formulated for clean room use:
The SPI-Fibe™ Ultra Microfiber Wipers are known to be extremely low in particle generation as well as being also extremely low in extractables and ion content. In addition, all four edges are thermally sealed to provide yet another reason why these wipers are outstanding in terms of their not-particulating properties.
