This high quality European made glass cutter is not a luxury, but is a necessity, if one wants to have the same high quality knife made, glass knife after glass knife after glass knife. What ever extra is paid because, yes, this is a more expensive glass cutter, but for the production of microtome knife blades, you can not settle for anything less. Why? Aside from the obvious, you will end up wasting so much glass that you will want to return to the days when you were using the high quality SPI Glass Cutter.

Total length of the cutter:
5 1/8"(13.0 cm) total length.
Microscopy and histology applications:
This glass cutter is the optimum size and quality for use when scoring glass destined for breakage either with the SPI Supplies Glass Breaking Pliers or a Ralph glass knife maker.
Other applications:
We are often times asked about the use of this particular tool for the cutting of thick pieces of glass. And yes, this glass cutter can be used. There are, however, some precautions one must consider:
1. Cutting glass by scoring and breaking is an art, and one generally needs to do some amount of practicing before they could consider themselves an "expert".
2. The ability to cut glass by scoring and breaking is much easier when the glass is new. Old glass develops surface defects which may interfere with one's ability to cut it to the desired dimensions.
3. Many pieces of glass which are thick have been heat treated; attempts to cut heat treated glass may shatter the glass.
Safety precautions:
Cutting any glass is potentially dangerous. Always were suitable eye protection, such as laboratory safety glasses.
