SPI-Chem™ Glass-Filled Diallyl Phthalate is ideal for metallographic and general microscope applications where the embedding (for polishing) is needed for samples that are metal, ceramic or glass. The product exhibits excellent chemical resistance for electropolishing and replicating. It is also cured to a particularly hard resin so that samples are not rounded at the sample/resin interface during mechanical polishing. The mounting procedure is the same as for Bakelite™. Putting it another way, this is a thermoset resin and must be cured under heat and pressure in a mounting press.

The resin itself is blue and it cures to a characteristic blue color. Optimum processing conditions are 280 to 290 °F (138 to 143 °C) at 3000 psi for 5 minutes for a 1 inch (25 mm) mold or 7 minutes for a 1.25 inch (32 mm) mold.
