Widely used electron dense stain with numerous biological applications, especially nerve tissue, glycoproteins; Also used as a metal stain. Silver nitrate can also be successfully used to act as a decorator in certain situations where by an ability to precipitate a quantity of silver chloride in tiny microvolumes enables once to elucidate certain structures not otherwise visible with any other means. And in amateur (black and white) photography, silver nitrate many historical applications.
