Preparation of Thick Sections and Faced-Off-Blocks
For those requiring thin sectioning in conjunction with LM or SEM studies
The advantages of a diamond knife and ultra microtome are often times needed
for both light microscopy (thick sections) and/or scanning electron
microscopy (SEM) requiring a faced-off-block. This kind of approach is also
often times needed for micro-FT/IR or other types of microanalytical analyses
where the interior of a sample has to be exposed.
Specifications: We would provide the agreed to number of thick sections per
sample or one faced-off-block per sample. If cryo-ultramicrotomy is
required, there can be additional costs up to $200 per sample.

Samples can be mounted for SEM and examined in our JEOL Model 840 SEM. And
when required, we have the full range of other sample preparation procedures
such as the plasma etching of
either the thick sections or the faced-off-piece to reveal additional
structure.
